As popular as stocks are among investors, there exists more than just one type of asset that can be used for trading. Knowing what these options are in advance can be quite helpful to those who are considering stepping into the financial markets. It is not at all uncommon for some traders to prefer one or two assets above others. However, it is wise to always keep an open mind so as not to overlook key opportunities.

Currency Pairs

Most traders think of the Forex markets when they think of trading currencies. However, currency pairs can also be traded within the binary options marketplace as well. Currency pairs tend to be quite volatile, which can either be a good or bad thing, depending on the financial instrument being used to try to profit from them.

These are physical goods that are in high demand nearly everywhere. This asset class contains items such as coffee, crude oil, wheat, corn, natural gas, and more. The price of these assets is heavily impacted by external factors such as weather, war/conflict, and governmental policies. However, since these are physical goods, they often act as a safe haven of sorts for investors.

Spot Metals

These often show up in the commodities class as they too are physical goods. Spot metals include gold, silver, platinum, and more. Much like the aforementioned commodities, metals are often considered to be a safe investment and again, this asset class can be impacted quite a bit by a number of different factors.

These are entire markets. In the United States, the S&P 500, Dow Jones, and Nasdaq are the three main indices. All major developed countries have their own index or indices and each may be representative of a varying number of businesses. Any number linked to the index name, such as the FTSE 100, should tell the number of companies that are represented. In this case, that number would be one-hundred.

One of the less flashy assets, bonds remain a solid option for investors. The fluctuating yields are what provides the profits. Bond prices are not extremely volatile, making this asset a nice investment for the trader that does not like unpleasant surprises.

Even those who have never made in investment in their entire life are likely to know just what stocks are. The more popular the brand name, the more recognizable the stock. Stocks for Apple, Facebook, Exxon, Coca-Cola, Microsoft and more can be bought and sold. In conventional trading, the value of the stock must increase from the purchase price in order to yield a profit. However, binary options traders can profit from price increases as well as price decreases.

Anyone who wishes to profit from the financial markets is going to have plenty of assets to choose from. The best advice for those just starting out would be to focus on an asset that is at least somewhat familiar. Anyone can learn to trade for profit so long as they have a commitment to learning how to do so properly. Asset selection is, and will always be, an important step in the process.
